We’re back!

Hiya Skeleton Crew,

Welcome back to the trivias! It’s my first time sendin out an email from this Ghost website I set up, so lemme know at mister@skeletontrivia.com if anything funky’s goin on.1

I've also gotta apologize that these trivias are two days later than I promised on Friday! I ran into some technical difficulties with the new setup, oops. I might try & make up the missing days at some point? Or maybe we’ll just have a slightly abbreviated August. I dunno!! I’ll keep youse guys posted.

But before we do August’s trivias, we gotta check out how the June trivias shook out!

June Trivia recap

Who are the mateys??

Starbuck tier (a.k.a. First mates, 50+ points)

  • nobody!!!!

Stubb tier (a.k.a. Second mates, 40–49 points)

  • revdrj (49)
  • MRS (48)
  • ACH (47)
  • Rarebitfiend (46)
  • alliaphage (43)
  • petesmithphd (41)

Flask tier (a.k.a. Third mates, 30–39 points)

  • a10mic (36)

It looks like the June trivias maybe played a li’l too hard?!? My goal’s to have some representation ’cross ALL the matey tiers, so it looks like I might hafta do a li’l recalibration this month? I dunno, we’ll figure it out!

In the meantime, let’s have a round for the mateys!!

[Huzzah! It’s an old timey illustration a’ some sailor-lookin’ guys hangin’ ’round a table, an’ one a’ them’s standin’ up with his arms raised high holdin’ a bottle a’ some kinda tipple in his left hand an’ a glass a’ it in his right.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming

Ha, these big headings are kinda fun, don’tcha think?

Answers to last time

  • The St. Louis Bread Company changed its name to Panera, though it still uses the old name in & around its original stompin grounds (i.e. the St. Louis metro area).
  • Add a T to Panera & ya get Pantera, the band that helped popularize groove metal.

Today’s Trivias

Trivia 1

Ya could add an H to Pantera to get Panthera, the genus of that includes tigers, leopards, snow leopards, lions, & what other big cat that’s the only Panthera species native to the Americas? The Aztecs called this animal the ocelotl—which is honestly kinda confusin, because the animal we call an “ocelot” nowadays is actually a DIFFERENT big cat that’s part of a whole ’nother genus altogether!2

Trivia 2

What are these things?:

It’s a picture with two li’l monster-lookin fuzzy guys standin at a small wooden table with a cake on it. The monsters have like these li’l bunny ears & big smiles with lotsa pointy teeth pokin out. They’re cute but also they look kinda devious, like maybe they’re gonna get up to some kinda mischief.

They’re these toys that’re made by a China-based retailer called Pop Mart, & I’m led to understand that they’re all the rage these days.

OK then

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

1 In particular, lemme know if ya unsubscribed at some point in recent history but’re still receivin these emails. That’s my bad & I’ll make sure ya get properly unsubscribed FOR REALS this time ’round.

2 That genus bein Leopardus—which, if you’re keepin track, is a genus that doesn’t contain leopards OR snow leopards! Ah jeez, I dunno youse guys, sometimes I think these friggin taxonomists are deliberately messing with us!!
