These tortugas are makin’ me thirsty!

Hiya Skeleton Crew,

It’s a new week! So dust yourself off, forget ’bout any of last week’s woes or miseries or mistakes, & let’s tackle the world with a renewed sense of vigor!

Alternately, maybe ya had a great week last week. In which case, I guess let’s ride that momentum forward?

All I’m tryna say is I’m wishin ya the best, I’m rootin for ya, hooray for you 💀💀💀

Answers to Last Time

  • The McMurdo dry valleys are some of the most arid, extreme spots on the planet: a good place to check out if ya need to test a Mars rover or somethin like that.
  • It’s Dry Tortugas National Park where ya can go see Fort Jefferson the biggest masonry structure this side of the Prime Meridian.

Today’s Trivias

Trivia 1

OK, mea culpa time youse guys! Last time I said that Dry Tortugas was the southernmost U.S. National Park outside of Hawaii. Well, in point of fact that’s not really right! I guess what I meant to get at was how Dry Tortugas is the southernmost Park in the ... contiguous U.S.? I guess? Except it feels awful weird to call a buncha islands part of the “contiguous” U.S., y’know? But the Dry Tortugas are officially part of Florida, & Florida’s one of those contiguous states, so I hope ya can kinda see where my cranium was at.

ANYWAY

In what territory can ya find the ACTUAL southernmost U.S. National Park? Alongside the (uninhabited) Jarvis Island, it’s the only U.S. territory south of the equator.

Trivia 2

The U.S. claimed Jarvis Island (& actually STILL claims it!) under the authority of a 1856 law called the WHAT Island Act? The missing word is a valuable natural resource that was also the subject of a minor war between Spain & its former colonies in South America over possession of the Chincha Islands.

OK then
