Enjoy a kouign-amann on this most approximate of days

Hiya Skeleton Crew,

Didja realize that yesterday was π Approximation Day? I completely missed it! But that’s OK, because how do ya even celebrate π Approximation Day? How do you approximately eat pie? Is it that ya almost eat it but then ya say “nah, I really shouldn’t, I’m tryna keep an eye on my figure for swimsuit season”?

Oh, oh! Or maybe it’s that ya eat somethin that’s almost-but-not-quite pie! Like … a cake? Or a cobbler or somethin?

Well, since we’re only a day after π Approximation Day, I guess that makes today approximately π Approximation Day … which sorta seems somehow still in the spirit of the thing? Maybe??

Today’s Trivias

Trivia 1

What golfer won the U.S. Women’s Open in 2014 – 11 years after she became the youngest player ever (age 13) to make the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open? As ya might imagine, this player was kinda hyped up as a golf prodigy early on, on account of bein the youngest player ever to qualify for all sortsa things; she even got a sponsor’s exemption to play at a PGA event, the Sony Open, back in ’04. She went pro just before turnin 16, but some folks might say her pro career didn’t quite live up to the hype: she got sidelined by injuries for a li’l while there & retired in 2023, only ever winnin just the one major (i.e., the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open).[1]

Ah jeez, listen to me! I say “just” the one major, like I could ever do that myself. Honestly, I think this player just got bitten by media oversaturation back in the early aughts. My impression is that folks were lookin for a lady equivalent to Tiger Woods & sorta unfairly pinned their hopes on her.

Anyway, who is she, that’s what I wanna know!

Trivia 2

Whaddya call the innermost layer of the meninges? This is a thing that we definitely all have – ’specially me, since I’m a living person with a normal human brain, just like all of youse! This thing I’m askin ’bout gets its name from how delicate it is (in contrast to the nearby dura) & the cerebrospinal fluid that sloshes ’round in our weird gooey squishy bodies does its sloshin in the space between this structure & the neighborin arachnoid.

OK then

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  1. Though I should mention she un-retired recently to play at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open! Plus, it sounds like she’ll be playin in the WTGL, which is some kinda indoor golf league that ya mighta heard about. So it ain’t like her story’s OVER, I didn’t mean for it to sound like that! ↩︎
