The oxymoronically famous Secret Speech

Hiya Skeleton Crew,

In all my excitement re: comin back from summer break, I almost forgot tell youse guys that I officially closed down my restaurant! We’re in the process of convertin it into a movie theater RIGHT NOW, & my hope’s to have it open up officially in October. So that’s pretty excitin stuff, eh?

Anyways, on to the trivias & happy Tuesday & all that jazz.

Answers to Last Time

  • The “IS” in the tank name IS-8 stood for Iosef Stalin (better known to youse & me as Joseph Stalin). But soon after Stalin died in ’53, it got changed to the T-10 as part of the process of De-Stalinization.
  • McLaren is runnin away with the Constructors’ Cup this season in F1: it’s halfway through the season & they’re sittin at 559 points while second-place Ferrari’s got a mere 260.

Today’s Trivias

Trivia 1

A big milestone in the process of De-Stalinzation was when ol’ Niki Khrushchev gave a li’l speech in 1956 that for some reason they called the “secret speech”, even though it wasn’t really a secret at all.

The speech’s OFFICIAL title was О культе личности и его последствиях, but that’s a mandibleful so I can understand why they wanted a shorter name. But can ya tell me what’s the three-word phrase that features in the most common English translation of that speech title? It also happens to be the title of an ’88 rock song that features audio clips of speeches from Malcolm X, JFK, & FDR.

Trivia 2

What’s the word for a Russian countryside house, like the one in Petrovo-Dalneye where Nikita Khrushchev lived after gettin kicked outta power in ’64? The word dates back to the days of ol’ Peter the Great, who’d give out li’l country estates to his faves where they could escape the summer soot & smog of the big cities.

OK then
