- The 18th Amendment’s the one that made Prohibition possible.
- “Centerfield” is the John Fogerty song that made it into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Today’s Trivias
Trivia 1
I don’t always remember all the Amendments, but on account of that 21st Amendment Brewery out in San Francisco I can usually remember that the 21st is the one that repealed Prohibition.
Here’s basically my mental framework for the Amendments, how I keep track of ’em:
- 1st: freedoms!!
- 2nd: guns!!!
- 3rd: quartering soldiers (’cause obviously that’s REAL important)
- 4th: ... privacy? I think?
- 5th: no self-incrimination! that’s what pleadin the fifth’s all about!! (also ... due process? I think??)
- 6–8: stuff related to criminal proceedings. Also no cruel & unusual punishment, that’s in here somewhere
- 9–10: don’t blame us for stuff we didn’t write
- 11–12: ???
- 13–15: we gotta get this slavery stuff OUT OF HERE, we had a whole Civil War ’bout it!!
- 16–17: ???
- 18th: prohibition
- 19th: ladies can vote!!!
- 20th: ???
- 21st: uff da, we were just kiddin ’bout that prohibition stuff
- 22–24: ???
- 25th: the one everyone talks about when they think the president’s doing a real crumb-bum job
- 26th: ???
- 27th: the one that one guy got passed as part of his senior thesis or something
Plus ya can kinda get the rough dates of stuff as long as ya remember things like how they did Amendments 1–10 right at the get-go in 1791, & how Amendments 13–15 were right after the Civil War, & how Amendments 18–21 happened back around when Al Capone was doin all his Prohibition nonsense.
Now obviously that doesn’t getcha to know ALL the amendments, there’s some gaps in there. But for the purposes of trivia, it’s not bad!!
Anyways, can ya tell me what’s 21st Amendment Brewery’s flagship IPA that’s got a picture of Mount Rushmore on the packaging? Alternately, ya could tell me what phrase did Revolutionary War General John Stark famously include in a toast he gave to an 1809 reunion of the Battle of Bennington? (The name of the IPA is a riff on this phrase, is why I’m lettin ya answer either.)
Trivia 2
Lotsa talk ’bout boozy brews, so here’s one for the teetotalers in the crowd.
When it comes to mocktails, my personal fave’s the classic Shirley Temple: ginger ale + grenadine + a marischino cherry.1 Whereas if ya put grenadine & cola together, ya get a drink that’s named after what King of the Cowboys?
OK then
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee
1 Well, that ain’t quite true: my ACTUAL fave is what I like to call a “Skelly Temple”, which is GREEN RIVER + grenadine + THREE marischino cherries. The one downside is that the green soda + red grenadine mixes to make a kinda unappealin brown color. But it tastes great! ⬏
