I guess ... even MORE Marc Summers all the time??

Hiya Skeleton Crew,

Welcome to Wednesday! I’m runnin late again, so no yappin today.

Answers to Last Time

  • Marc Summers was the host of Nickelodeon’s Double Dare, where contestants famously’d get slimed, so that’s why his one-man show was titled The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers.
  • That show was based on Mr. Summers’s autobiography, Everything in Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Today’s Trivias

Trivia 1

I know we went kinda deep on Marc Summers yesterday, but before I leave him as a topic I just gotta relate this li’l anecdote I spotted in my researches.

Back in 1994, Mr. Summers was a guest on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show. In particular, he was the second guest to come on, while the first guest was a big-shot Hollywood type. Now I guess the Hollywood fella was in kinda a bad mood, ’cause apparently Mr. Leno decided to crack a joke at the top of the show[1] ’bout this guy’s divorce with Loni Anderson (the Hollywood fella’s divorce, I mean).

Anyway, Marc Summers comes on & starts talkin to Jay ’bout himself & how he’s a “neatness freak”. For whatever reason, Mr. Hollywood butts into the convo & says somethin snippy ’bout how Marc Summers’s back is to him, & also he asks, “Who told you that you were a neatness freak?” In response to that, Mr. Summers makes the quip: “My wife tells me that often. I’m still married, as a matter of fact.”

Uff da, well THAT sure wasn’t the right thing to say!

After Mr. Hollywood registers the zinger, he dumps his water mug right then & there into Marc Summers’s lap! Mr. Summers tries to get back by dumpin his own water onto Mr. Hollywood, but it gets smacked away back onto himself. Then Mr. Hollywood says, “He’s not a neatness freak anymore.”

OK, so maybe ya already guessed what I’m gonna ask: who was “Mr. Hollywood” in this encounter?

(I call him “Mr. Hollywood”, but actually his movie-makin career was kinda in a lull at the time. I think he was on the talk-show circuit maybe to promote his new autobiography? Or there was his teevee show, Evening Shade, though I think that’d just gotten cancelled 💀)

Trivia 2

What comedian did a Kickstarter back in 2023 to make a three-episode semi-autobiographical comedy series titled Noooo-CD ’bout her experience with Intrusive Thoughts OCD? Another semi-autobiographical series she did that ya mighta heard ’bout is Lady Dynamite, or maybe ya saw her Special Special Special! comedy special that she shot at home with just her two parents in the audience.

OK then

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  1. Wikipedia says Mr. Leno made the joke on the previous night’s episode, but an Esquire article I found said it was at the top of that same show. I dunno who to trust on that one – maybe they’re both right, for all’s I know! — &, well … if I’m bein honest with ya I can’t say I’m in love with the comedic stylin’s of Jay Leno enough to go through the bother of fact-checkin this one for myself. ↩︎
