Mo Rocca playing maracas in Morocco
Hiya Skeleton Crew,
Happy new week! I’m still travelin through the U.K. – I’m on a train in Scotland, matter of fact! – so I don’t got too much time to yak right now.
Answers to Last Time
- The comedian fella I was askin ’bout last time was Mo Rocca, & I guess I was bein a little cheeky when I didn’t mention his job as a Daily Show correspondent, since that’s maybe what he’s best known for. (At least, it’s what I know him best from.)
- The idiophone (non-derogatory) I wanted ya to answer was maraca, which sounds a heckuva lot like “Mo Rocca”.
Today’s Trivias
Trivia 1
Lookin out the window right now I can see a li’l town called Linlithgow. Ya might not’ve heard of it, but it’s actually the hometown of Mary, Queen of Scots. Ya’ve heard of HER, right?
They love makin movies & stuff ’bout her. Now, I dunno if ya’ve ever seen a movie that portrays someone ya knew in person, but … it’s pretty weird! Like, ya see this actor who’s kinda like the person ya knew, & ya can sorta see the resemblance – but also more likely ’n not they get it all sortsa wrong.
Like there was that Mary of Scotland movie with Katharine Hepburn as Mary. I mean, Katharine Hepburn?! How does THAT make sense? I dunno what they were thinkin. But that was in the ’30s, they were always doin weird castin back in those days.
More recent was Mary Queen of Scots with Saoirse Ronan as Mary, she did a pretty darn good job if I’m bein honest.
But my number one movie Mary has gotta be what actor who played her in 1971’s Mary, Queen of Scots, opposite Glenda Jackson’s Queen Lizzie I? I feel like that’s the flick that best captured Mary’s whole … well, I guess her whole je ne sais quoi, is how she’d’ve put it. But basically: charmin as heck, funny too, a wee bit reckless, & not always thinkin everything 100% through.
Anyway, this actor I’m askin ’bout got a Best Actress nomination outta the role – one of several Oscar nods throughout her career, matter of fact, though her only win (so far) was for Best Supporting Actress for the title role of 1977’s Julia. I’d say she’s the highest profile member of I guess ya’d call it an “actin dynasty” that’s included folks like her dad Michael, her sibs Corin & Lynn, & her daughter Natasha Richardson.
Trivia 2
Anytime I come to Scotland I make sure to stock up on what orange-colored soda pop that’s got the slogan “Made in Scotland from Girders”? I dunno how to describe how it tastes – it’s kinda like, I dunno, maybe some kinda Jolly Rancher dissolved in tonic water? – but I sure as heck love the stuff!
OK then
