Answers to Last Time
- It’s Vanessa Redgrave who was Mary, Queen of Scots in that Mary, Queen of Scots movie.
- Scotch is Scotland’s national drink, but Irn-Bru’s Scotland’s OTHER national drink.
Today’s Trivias
Trivia 1
If ya mix together Scotch whisky & Drambuie, ya get what I like to call “ruined Scotch”. But it also happens to be the recipe for what IBA official cocktail?
Trivia 2
Drambuie’s origin story goes back to the Jacobite risin of 1745, when Charles Stuart tried to help his pop, James Stuart, onto the British throne. What a good son!
Anyways, there was a big battle at a spot called Culloden (maybe ya’ve heard of it, ’specially if yer a fan of those Outlander books), li’l Charlie lost, & off he went to the Isle of Skye to kinda hide out with his pal John MacKinnon, while he figured out his next move. The details ain’t too important for our story here, but the legend goes that the Prince gave Mr. MacKinnon this great recipe for – you guessed it! – the drink that turned out to be Drambuie.
The whole story’s a buncha hokum, but it’s good marketin I guess?
What I wanna know, though, is: what’s the stage name of musician Will Oldham that’s partially inspired by Charles Stuart’s nickname? The other part of Mr. Oldham’s stage name comes from a different historical nickname, the one used by the notorious outlaw born Henry McCarty.
OK then
