Hiya Skeleton Crew,
Bad news! Apparently the haunted suit of armor I brought back with me from Scotland has started causin mischief ’round town.
True, I don’t got direct evidence … but I hear folks chat-chattin in the movie theater, & the gossip in town’s that folks’ve been hearin someone – or SOMETHING – stompin ’round the ol’ graveyard up on Wisteria St., ’round ’bout the wee hours of 3 or 4 AM.
Plus apparently people are findin gravestones that’ve been cloven straight in twain. In twain, I tells ya! That’s hard to do!!
Some folks even say that now if ya go to Wisteria Street on any mornin of the week, ya can smell the unmistakable thick & peaty odor of an honest-to-goodness Scottish bog! Eerie, right??
Oh, also, there were three different security cameras at the graveyard that caught an animated suit of armor swingin its big ol’ claymore at gravestones & stuff. That feels kinda conclusive, right?
Answers to Last Time
- Fantastic Voyage was that movie where a crew of folks got shrunk down & put into a guy’s body to save him from a blood clot in his brain.
- The vagus nerve is the long, long nerve that “wanders” all ’round the body. Vagus, vagabond, extravagant – all those words are vaguely related. Ha! Get it? Vaguely? Ah jeez, sometimes I crack myself up! (Oh, & just FYI, if ya answered “vagal” ya still got credit, no matter what the website mighta told ya.)

Now, don’t worry, I ain’t gonna ask ya MORE Greek mythology – not after all that Odyssey talk we just had. Good news is the name Proteus comes up in all sortsa places! Like for example, it’s the name of one of the titular characters in what Shakespeare play?

Back at the start of Season 30, I asked ya ’bout the word bugonia – which if ya recall means “the ancient Mediterranean ritual based on the belief that bees were spontaneously generated from a cow’s carcass”. Well, that story comes from a myth ABOUT Proteus! It’s a whole thing – there was a guy named Aristaeus, his bees were dyin, apparently Proteus was the only guy who knew why, it had somethin to do with Aristaeus bein involved in Eurydice’s death— which, ah jeez, that’s a whole ’NOTHER story, it’s like pullin a thread on a sweater with all these friggin interconnected Greek myths!!
Anyways, point is Proteus was involved in the whole “leave a rottin cow out to help the bees” idea, that’s all I wanted to say. What does this got to do with anythin? Nothin!! But I thought it was a neat li’l connection to somethin we’d talked ’bout earlier, so I figured “Heck, let’s shove it into a footnote, why not?” ↩︎
